The Mana Chronicles - News Archives 2005
April 10, 2005
Oh no! Not another sprite comic! The disease is spreading! For those of you who do not know, this is a parody-based web comic based off of Seiken Densetsu 3. Seiken Densetsu 3 is an old SNES game which was supposed to be the sequel to Secret of Mana, but Squaresoft decided not to release it in the US. Later, a fan group translated it and distributed it for play on SNES emulators, and they did a professional job about it too! Anyway, I put the link to the ROM on the left for any of you who have not played the game and want to. I am almost certain it is not illegal since I believe it is not licensed in the US, and it is fan translated, but don't hold me to that. As for my comic, I made four chronicles before I made this site. After the creation of the site, I am totally drained, so no more comics will be created until I relax for a while. I hope you enjoy it!
April 12, 2005
Well, it looks like I am not as drained as I thought, since I managed to create another chronicle. As you may or may not see, I try to take great care to make my work as good as I can make it, so I don't update often. The comic may look simple, but trust me, it's a lot more work than it looks.
April 14, 2005
Another few days, another chronicle, and this one actually brings a game screen into the story. Characters aware of their Status Screen should offer a bit of a unique and fun twist in the story. This will probably be my last update for a little while since I have a special project I want to do before continuing this. Sorry for the bad news, but these things happen.
April 16, 2005
Okay, looks like that "special project" didn't take nearly as long as I thought. Yet another chronicle is complete, and this one tells the joke I have been dying to get to for over a month. It's funny to me, but who knows, maybe nobody else shares my sense of humor.
April 20, 2005
Another chronicle is up for your enjoyment....or criticism....whatever. The next one may or may not be a while, since I am going home over the next week. I will try to bring all my comic building supplies home with me.
April 30, 2005
Okay people, here's the deal. I was unable to get any work done on the next comic at all due to unforeseen circumstances. I do not know how long it will be until I get settled back into school to make another one, so a lot of patience will be required.
May 3, 2005
For those people who are completely new to web comics, or for those new ones who have been too lazy to use the Archives section to start at the beginning, I have added a First Comic button. At first I only wanted the site to be just about as basic as need be, but then I ran into the newbie problems. End of story.
May 4, 2005
Hah! Another chronicle is done, and it took less time than I thought it would to make. I'd like to also mention, feel free to e-mail me with questions or comments. It would be nice to know if anyone is actually reading this. I hope you enjoy my latest comic installment.
May 5, 2005
A next day update? I must be insane! Well, insane or not, number 10 is done. Go read it!
May 7, 2005
Here we go, an update for the layout of the front page. If it's coming up all freaky for you, then hit your Refresh button. Since I changed the style sheet, if it doesn't refresh automatically, looking way out of whack would be expected. Anyway, I think this small design change looks a whole lot nicer than what I previously had.
May 11, 2005
Well, Chronicle 11, in my opinion, isn't one of my better ones, but hey, I'm not perfect. Who knows, though, maybe everyone else will find it funnier than I did.
May 13, 2005
Chronicle 12 is up, so put down your video game controllers or whatever it is you're doing, even if it means that you die if you do! Oh, and I will try to have a proper link to
San's Web Blast on the right with the others as soon as I can make a button, since he didn't create one of his own yet.
Edit: It looks like I got a button made for SWB quicker than expected.
May 14, 2005
Well, this may be next-day, but it is late in the day for this update. It should almost be obvious that a new comic is available for viewing, unless I direct attention to some other matters.
May 17, 2005
Gather 'round boys and girls for Chronicle 14, which teaches us that the ability to lie is a good thing. Why, without lies, how would we be able to tell the French that their language is beautiful, or how would we be able to tell Canada that the USA is not on standby to launch nukes at their country at any time? Hahaha I'm just joking......or am I?
May 19, 2005
I demand the examining of the next chronicle! My sub-standard sprite comic requires reading! So do it now! Also, I have been given permission to set up a forum section for The Mana Chronicles in the Antabaka forums, so I'll set that up as soon as possible.
Edit: For those of you who are oblivious to changes in the page, there is a Forum button on the left now. Registration to the Antabaka forums is free, and I guarantee your information (whatever is required to register) will not be used in any way by the people of Antabaka. We run the site for fun and for no profit. The button will send you directly to The Mana Chronicles General Discussion section.
May 22, 2005
What was that?! My sprite comic sucks?! How dare you say that, even if it is true! Next chronicle is up, so go give yourself a 16th reason to tell me that I'm wasting my time :P
May 25, 2005
No, there is no new comic today. I might as well say that up front before getting to why I am posting this. I am getting a little more overwhelmed with school work than usual, and until I can get it completed, comic production will slow down drastically, so be patient. Also, recently I have gotten to play an old game for the first time, Animal Crossing. I liked it so much that I went out and bought it. This would be another reason my time is occupied. That's all I have to say.
May 27, 2005
Okay all you chronicle readers, I gave you another one to laugh at (I hope). It seems I have at least one reader who likes this comic a lot, and because of his post in the forum, I felt compelled to make this one as soon as possible. I still don't promise that these will come out at a speedy pace though!
June 4, 2005
Holy crap, it's another update! It's been quite a few days since I made a comic, but here's a new one for you. School work is giving me a hard time, so things are still going to be slow in the comic developments.
June 11, 2005
I'm getting pretty sick of this sprite comic already, especially since I have seen a mass of infinitely better ones all over the place. Maybe if I weren't such an idiot, and I made a randomness comic, it would be way better. But nooooooooo, I decided to go with a storyline edit sprite comic. Well, it's too late to back down now, so I'll just stick with what I have and keep going. Oh, duh, I forgot to say 19 is up.
June 15, 2005
Well, hooray for my efforts. I've just reached 20 of these things. School work has just tripled on me, so that bodes very badly for this site for a while. Life's a drag.
June 19, 2005
It looks like I found time in my busy schedule to bring you another piece of entertainment. I can almost guarantee that I won't have any more comics up for a while. I only had time today because it was a weekend. Starting Monday, I'm going to be working really hard.
June 22, 2005
I guess I just can't help myself. When I get a new comic scripted, I usually feel like I need to put it together as soon as possible, which, luckily for you, resulted in another new comic.
June 29, 2005
Well, it's been a week since I made a comic, but it was time well spent getting some work done. I also spent a little time playing an old nightmare called Viewtiful Joe. At least I am good enough to beat it now. I'm sorry I can't update with new comics any faster at the moment.
July 2, 2005
I hate needing to come up with filler ideas, but thanks to a vague suggestion from Jim, the author of Element Warriors and AOJAC, with whom I talk to daily, I was able to come up with this new one. It seems I have had one or two complaints about how my comics are bigger than their screen horizontally. Well, my comic is best viewed in 1024x768 resolution. If you are too dead set on using a resolution lower than that, then your complaints are quite invalid as far as I'm concerned.
July 10, 2005
Whoa! I actually got the urge to make another comic! Now I'm up to a quarter of 100. There is bad news though. I am going to be swamped with work for the rest of this month and the beginning of next month, so I will probably not make any more comics until it's all done. But hey,
why would I care? I'm a helicopter!
August 9, 2005
Well, almost everything has settled back down. I still have some work to do though. Since I was a winner of Jim's little art contest, I need to help him make a storyline for his comic of my own designs. I will also be going home for about a week on the 20th, so I will be unable to make comics there either. At least after a month of waiting, you can all finally read my latest comic disasterpiece.
August 14, 2005
I can't believe I forgot! I had this done in the afternoon, and I forgot to upload it! Sorry about that. News, news, news, let's see. The obvious thing to start with would be that I put up another comic today. Also, I put links and information about TTA in the forum. For those who don't know, TTA is something of a web comic flash animation combo made by Kirbopher15, who does pretty good artwork in deviantART. I already explained in the forum why I do not put the links to the right with all of my other links. I may or may not have another comic put up before I go home for a week next weekend. I'll do what I can.
August 19, 2005
No, there's no new comic. I would have had it done tonight if it weren't for an annoying part I need to put together that takes time. This means I won't have another comic until after I come back from going home, which is next Saturday. I'll try to have a new one up either then or the next day.
August 28, 2005
What?! A new comic?! That's insanity! I must be the worst sprite comic author ever. Any other sprite comic you find usually has a set schedule for updating, and here I am just making them every once in a while whenever I feel up to it. Well, at least there's one today, but at this rate, the story might take about 60 years to complete. There's no way I can calculate that though since I have no clue how many chronicles it would take to finish this poor excuse for a poor excuse.
September 5, 2005
It's Labor Day, so I labored on another comic. What kind of moron gives that kind of name to a holiday anyway? It's a national relaxation day, so let's call it "Agonizing Work Day"! Speaking of work, school is going to start pushing my limits, so I am almost certain I will not be able to update enough to make this comic worth looking at for a while. Blame it on my instructors who want nothing less than total brain burnout in their students.
September 9, 2005
Yeah, I made another one. I can't think of anything else to say that hasn't already been said. Oh well, I'm sure it won't break all your hearts too badly.
September 16, 2005
Okay, here's the deal. All of my comics are now in PNG format. This means they no longer lose colors or quality. This also means that they are bigger file sizes. Some of the comics are even over one and a half megabytes. This may seem a little shocking to most, but think about it. Think about how huge of screen space my comics take up. It's a miracle I have been keeping them compressed so much to begin with. Now, broadband users should have no problems. This is mostly a dilemma for dial-up users. I'm sorry about this, but I am no longer satisfied by the lack of quality GIF and JPEG afford me. With all of that said, go read the next one.
September 19, 2005
I thought I'd let you all know that I had fixed an error in 31 in the second panel. Duran was supposed to be thinking his line and not saying it out loud. I mean, saying he didn't want to wake the monsters out loud would only result in them waking up, which is obviously not what I wanted. Yeah, even though I'm still alive, the comic is barely staying alive. Thank you school, for you have deprived my readers of entertainment. I would award you, but I don't have a trophy big enough to squash you into paste. Sorry.
September 25, 2005
Well, something bad just came up. I won't be able to make new comics for quite a while. It seems the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG IRC channel I used to run lost my dueling bot, and they could use my help in recreating it. So, I'm going to be deep into mIRC scripting for a while, which means my comic must go on hold for that long.
October 15, 2005
I finally made another comic after an entire month. Yeah, I am having that much trouble with school. All of the complaining aside, many may think that I spelled "fairy" wrong. In the ROM, nowhere in the entire game have I seen that word spelled that way, so you'll have to accept "faerie" or go on a hunger strike. Either way, it doesn't affect me.
October 22, 2005
Holy crap on a crap cracker, this one took a lot of work to make! Don't worry. Most of the dialogue that I skipped over will be recovered on the way back to Astoria. I'm too worn out to think of anything else to say.
November 10, 2005
No, there's no comic yet. I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't abandoned it. But it's a weird coincidence, the script for my next comic pretty much has the exact same joke in it as was used in Bob and George today. No, I didn't steal my material. I had the script done for weeks now. Anyway, I can't promise that another comic will be done soon. There's just way too much to do.
November 28, 2005
A new comic has finally arrived, though, I can't even call this a true web comic with how long it is between updates. I hope you will at least get a laugh out of this one.
December 10, 2005
Well, I had to remove the link to my friend's old comic, Element Warriors, because Imagehost or whatever he uses deleted the comics, and they are gone forever. I'm also putting in a current comic reminder. Now I won't need to specify if I have a new comic or not, and you all won't need to go to extra trouble to look for yourselves.
